This guy seems to have the "why do it the easy way if you can do it the hard way" mentality so often seen in Linux weenies, but look at the convolutions and gyrations to undergo before the damn thing is installed! Again, we find that the reality is far removed from the glib 'how hard is to do configure; make; make install' lie you often hear from Linux apologists.
Also notice that he had "previously experimented with amaroK, which totally fucked up my iPod. Even iTunes on a Mac couldn't read the iPod after that." Just because a program came on a Linux disk, and it has a pretty interface, it doesn't mean that the program is not completely fucked up inside. There is a lot of pre-alpha software out there on Linux disks.
You can somehow try and use desktop Linux, but never buy any new hardware to use with it!
