Optical mice not recognized on boot with live CD Kubuntu or Ubuntu.

What year is this again??

"I have heard a lot about Ubuntu and Kubuntu. I am not too thrilled with them right now. My mouce port gets shutoff when I try the live cd. To use mouse again I have to remove it from back of computer and plug back in. Regular mice work fine. Something as simple as an optical mouse should work on boot and first install."
